Hello forum
We are developing a WinForrms application that uses muti-layer technology in
which the report viewer is a layer that includes a winform that belongs to a
separate project within a single solution. This tier shows all the
application reports using a single ReportViewer control in Local Mode. We
use drilling to show detail reports through links in master reports. It
works fine if we generate an exe file and it executes isolated. But when we
change the project to a class library application type and runs the report
layer (a generated dll) from the initial exe, this one show the first master
report with no problem, but when we "drilltrhough" to any detail report an
error occurs: "The definition of the <my_detail_report_name> report has not
been specified".
We solved this issue by including the form with ReportViewer control and
rdlc files in the initial project but it isn't what we want. We need to let
the report layer in a separeted layer (DLL).
We thanks any help
Tiempo Hard development team.Hello Tiempo,
I would like to get the project so that I can try to reproduce.
Also, what's the build action you use for the report?
You could send the project to me. To reach me, please remove the ONLINE in
my email address.
Sincerely,
Wei Lu

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting
Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) at

==================================================(This posting is provided "AS IS", with no warranties, and confers no

It's me, Arturo.
I posted this issue yesterday.
I think that is complicated to send you the whole project because the
application runs connected to SQL Server using SQL tables and to linked
server ponting to remote VFP tables. The report layer uses ADO DataSets and
TableAdapters but other ones uses NHibernate objects to connect to SQL
Server. I think it is very difficult to fulfill with which you request to
me.
I suppose it's a bug of drillthrough event so I noted that e.report event
handler argumet seems to bring uncompleted report properties, for instance,
the IsReadyToRender property of local report object instance is not true
and it has an error message, but IsReadyToConnect is true. It seems to be
that the main application cannot find the definition of the report when
being in another directory than the dll of the report layer. Really I don't
know what else can I tell you. By the way, what is build action?
Hopefully I wait for any help.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Arturo

Thanks for the update.
When I state the Build Action, I mean in the local report rdlc file
Property, there is a Build Action property. What's the property value you
use?
The reason why I need a sample project is that I need to reproduce the
issue on my side so that I can proform further troubleshooting.
Since your project is complex, I think you could just generate a simple
project which include 2 Local Report and one form with the ReportViewer.
Please let me know if this is possible.
Sincerely,
Wei Lu

Thanks for your time.
The Build Action is Embedded Resource, but I proved with Compilation and a
lot of errors occurs at compilation time. Then I proved with Embedded
Resource and I included the rdlc files in the resources of dll project but
the same error occurs. With Nothing and Content the same error occurs than
with Embedded Resource.
I'm waiting for your comments.
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Arturo

I think I still need the sample project to understand this issue more
clearly and further troubleshooting.
Could you generate a simple project?
